If the problem (smoke or fumes coming out the fireplace or stove) occurs ONLY IN WINDY conditions then THIS IS A DOWNDRAUGHT. The anti down draught cowls to use are: A) Static Cowl if your problem is not severe (found here). B) A Spinner Cowl if the your problem is severe (found here).
If the problem (smoke or fumes coming out the fireplace or stove) occurs when there is LITTLE or NO WIND then this is not a downdraught. This is a LACK OF DRAUGHT.
No anti down draught cowl will fix a lack of draught there is only ONE cowl to fix a LACK OF DRAUGHT and that is an ELECTRIC cowl called the SUPER C.
If the Chimney Problem is heat loss, over performance of chimney, excessive fuel consumption or exterior noise in the chimney, then the cowl you need to fix this is the CHIMNEY CONTROL (found here).
If the problem is rain or birds nesting then the cowl you need is the Anti Bird/Anti Rain cowl (found here).

The main purpose of the Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl is to prevent the penetration of the chimney by moderate or severe winds which causes smoke to escape from the open fireplace or stove or any other appliance such as a stove
Thanks to ‘sail’ design blade fins the Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl responds to wind coming from any direction
Its response is immediate because of its double bearing pivot action. The more severe the wind – the more effective the Spinner cowl becomes.
When revolving, the Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl also ventilates the chimney shaft helping keep it dry and it can also help prevent back up smells coming down into the room via the fireplace or stove.
Does not impede the performance of the chimney in any way.
Suitable for use with all fuels - oil, gas & solid fuels (except anthracite)
The Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl also protects the chimney from moisture ingress and nesting birds. If your problem is excess moisture ingress a Static Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl offers more protection from driving rain than either the Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl or Anti Bird / Anti Rain Chimney Cowl

What the Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl will not do:
Should not be used with Anthracite fuel or fuels high in sulphuric acid.
The Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl must not be used on a chimney shorter than 18 feet
Will not prevent a down draught if the chimney is more than 4 feet lower than the apex of the roof or 4 feet lower and in close proximity to a taller structure, hedge, or tree(s)
This cowl will not prevent a draughting problem when there is no wind – if the problem still exists when there is no wind (in conditions such as cold, calm and frost) the problem is a lack of draught (not a downdraught) and a motorised chimney cowl is required such as the Super C Electric Fan Cowl No anti down draught chimney cowl can solve a lack of draught.

1 x fixing screw and bolt
3 x stainless steel legs. (These are 105mm in length and are suitable for a standard chimney pot. If you have an ornamental / decorative chimney pot you may require longer legs – these are 235mm in length and are available as an optional extra)
3 x steel claws to grip the inside of the chimney pot
3 x wing nuts to attach legs to main body of cowl
Fitting:
Will fit most standard chimney pots - the Spinner’s base diameter is 8” or 200mm. To fit the Spinner to a 6” chimney pot – a 6” Spinner Adapter must be purchased.
The Spinner Anti Down Draught Chimney Cowl is very easy to install – only a screw driver is required. Fitting instructions supplied with each product. To fit the Spinner to a prefabricated or insulated flue – a Spinner Adapter must be purchased. We sell Spinner Adapters in sizes 3”, 4”, 5”, 6”, 7” and 9”. How to Install:
The Spinner Chimney Cowl incorporates a simple yet effective system of attaching closely to a chimney pot or Spinner Adapter.
The three claws grip the inside of the pot / adapter
The three strapping legs are positioned outside the pot / adapter
Claws & strapping legs are held in place by 3 wing-nuts & a tightly fitting strapping band.
There is no drilling or measuring involved in fitting this cowl. A screwdriver is the only tool required.
